Company: Development Counsellors International (DCI) is the leader in marketing places. Since 1960, we have represented more than 500 places helping them to attract both investors and visitors under our economic development and tourism practice areas. Now we are looking to hire a Public Relations Account Executive (AE) in our NYC office to join our Talent Attraction practice area.  

Attracting talent has become a new focus for cities across the U.S. given many Americans are now on the hunt to find their next best career opportunity or a better quality of life. In this role, the Public Relations AE will have a prominent writing and pitching role in positioning communities across the nation as best places to live, work and do business in. From pitching media storylines on the affordability and top industries of a community to rising culinary scenes and immersive outdoor experiences, the Public Relations AE will be tasked with cultivating relationships with influential contacts in the press to secure top-tier livability and lifestyle media placements.

Qualifications: 

We are looking for a detail-oriented, creative, high-achieving marketing professional who is a strong writer, has a track record working with the media and thrives in a fast-paced work environment. Our ideal candidate reflects DCI’s core values – be a knowledge sponge, keep promises, embrace a passion for places, share your talents and pursue happiness - and embraces our firm’s shared purpose of elevating the lives of people living, traveling, and working in the places we serve by engaging our passions for travel, exploring new cultures, and doing good. 

  • Two years of PR experience required; prior agency experience strongly preferred 

  • Strong media relations and marketing skills across a variety of industries 

  • Passion for consuming news and an understanding of how newsrooms operate 

  • Desire to have a positive impact through your work and drive positive change for the good in the communities we serve 

  • Strong writing capabilities 

  • Solid track record of placing articles in top-tier and trade media on behalf of clients 

  • Excellent client management and interpersonal skills 

  • Strategic, creative thinker who can develop and execute integrated PR and marketing programs 

  • Ability to balance multiple clients, work on tight deadlines and have a drive for hitting goals 

  • A self-starter willing to hit the ground running 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Muck Rack, Wrike, or similar platforms 

  • BA or BS in Economics, Business, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications preferred
