As an Account Manager in our economic development practice, you’ll be managing a portfolio of client accounts, developing earned media strategies and telling stories focused on topics such as  

  • how cities and states are solving affordable housing shortages 

  • how professional sports help advance local economies 

  • what makes a place’s startup ecosystem unique and successful. 

 
You don’t have to be an economist or even have a background in economic development to apply. All you need are the qualifications listed below. We’ll give you the training necessary to become an expert in economic development. Combine that with your existing skills and talents, and you’ll be ready to thrive in your new role.       

Qualifications

  • 4-5 years public relations and/or journalism experience required; prior agency experience required 

  • Exceptionally creative, AP-style writer 

  • Strong understanding of public relations strategy and the ability to craft, present and defend a media strategy to a client and oversee its implementation 

  • Manage and oversee multiple client accounts, serving as the main point of contact for clients, setting the strategy and overseeing its implementation from start to finish, and project managing the internal service team to ensure program deliverables are met 

  • Identify and develop a story angle when there is no clear hook. Able to draft a concise pitch to national print and broadcast reporters 

  • Manage & mentor a team 

  • Can provide solid examples of identifying a story idea, writing the pitch and landing the placement 

  • Strong experience in managing workflow, which includes responding to clients, writing pitches, mentoring staff and meeting short- and long-term deliverables and deadlines 

  • Experience with managing a budget and meeting deliverables 

  • Ability to travel at least once/quarter, if required 

  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or have all necessary approvals to live/work in the U.S.
